Children’s Privacy Policy

Last Updated: November 16, 2020

We welcome members who are under 13 years of age (each a “Minor User” or “child”). This policy is in accordance with the U.S. Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (“COPPA”), and outlines our practices in regarding children’s personal information. Any capitalized terms not defined herein are defined in our Terms of Service located at https://bitsbox.com/terms.html or our main Privacy Policy located at https://bitsbox.com/privacy.html.

We may work with partners, such as resellers, in connection with the Bitsbox service. Those partners may separately collect personal information from Minor Users, and their collection, use, disclosure, and protection of such personal information is subject to their privacy policies.

Minor User Registration. Minor Users can, in many cases, register with our Services to view content, create projects, and engage in special features, among other things. During the registration process, we may ask the Minor User to provide certain information for notification and security purposes, including a parent or guardian’s email address, the child’s name, the child’s address (to validate a previously purchased physical Bitsbox product), or the child’s member or account username and password. We also may ask for birth dates from children to validate their ages. We strongly advise children never to provide any personal information in their usernames. Please note that children can choose whether to share their information with us, but certain features cannot function without it. As a result, children may not be able to access certain features if required information has not been provided. We will not require a child to provide more information than is reasonably necessary in order to participate in an online activity.

Parent or Guardian Email. Consistent with the requirements of COPPA, on any child-targeted site or application, or in any instance where we ask for age and determine the user is under the age of 13, we will ask for a parent or guardian email address before we collect any personal information from the child. If you believe your child is participating in an activity that collects personal information and you or another parent/guardian have NOT received an email providing notice or seeking your consent, please feel free to contact us at help@bitsbox.com. We will not use parent emails provided for parental consent purposes to market to the parent, unless the parent has expressly opted-in to email marketing or has separately participated in an activity that allows for such email contact.

Parental Consent

In the event Bitsbox wishes to collect personal information from a child, COPPA requires that we first seek a parent or guardian’s consent, which we may do via a separate consent in the checkout process or via an alternative method. In obtaining such consent, we will explain what information we are collecting, how we plan to use it, how the parent can provide consent, and how the parent can revoke consent. Parents may contact us at any time after their child has registered to prohibit future disclosure of their children’s information. In the event that a parent allows collection but prohibits disclosure of their child’s personal information, that Minor User may not be able to participate in some parts of the Services (such as some of the project sharing features we provide).

What information does Bitsbox collect from Minor Users?

Information Collected by Bitsbox. Depending on the particular service, we may directly collect a Minor User’s personal information and contact information as described more fully in our main Privacy Policy. Whenever possible, Bitsbox will assign anonymous IDs to Minor Users for use with the Services. In addition, the Services indirectly collect information (such as persistent identifiers like IP addresses) as described more fully in our main Privacy Policy.

Prohibited Collection of Information. We are prohibited by law from conditioning a certain Minor User’s participation in a game, the offering of a prize, or another similar activity on such users’ disclosure of more personal information than is reasonably necessary to participate in that activity or to otherwise deliver the Services.

How does Bitsbox use and share information from Minor Users?

We use and disclose personal information to provide the Services in accordance with our Terms of Service and main Privacy Policy, except as described in this Children’s Privacy Policy or prohibited by COPPA. In addition, we use personal information to obtain verifiable parental consent for the collection of personal information from Minor Users. We do not generally sell or share the personal information of our Minor Users to or with any third-party for the purpose of marketing to such Minor User.

Parent’s Choices

At any time, parents can refuse to permit us to collect further personal information from their children in association with a particular account, and can request that we delete from our records the personal information we have collected in connection with that account. Please keep in mind that a request to delete records may lead to a termination of an account, membership, or other service. Please contact us at help@bitsbox.com if you would like to access, change, or delete your child’s personal information.

In any correspondence such as e-mail or mail, please include the child’s username and the parent’s email address and telephone number. To protect children’s privacy and security, we will take reasonable steps to help verify a parent’s identity before granting access to any personal information.
